Stating that he urgently required a taxi .10 take his wife to , a maternity home, a man ringing from a public telephone box shortly after 1 «,.m. this- morning was.. responsible -for rousing a local taxi driver who does not normally provide an all night service, but will oblige in eases of urgency. • .Investigation, Jiowever, proved the call io be a hoax. , •Not content with depriving the driver of his sieep and much needed benzine, the person a so rang the maternity home advising a that he was bri'nging his- wife in immediateiy. * A bed' was prepared out»neither the man nor his "wife" appeared. It is understoo'd that &he man gave a name, but that an investigation of the hospita.'s books revealed that no one of that name was listed as a possible patient. .
