Mayor Wants Horses Kept Off Verges
"We have gone to some 'trouble to assist the burgesses and encourage them to keep the front of Lheir premises neat and mown, and many of these frontages are looking particularly nice," said the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin when decrying, at last night's meeting of the Levin Boroiigh Council, the exercislng of race horses on the sides of borough streets. He asked the council io consider the advisability of making a by-law prohibiting the practice. ' "There is absolute1^ no justification for the exercising of horses Within the 'borough. ' There are 'plenvy of coimty roads near at hand," Mr. Burdekin added. "Not on.y do they turn nice frontages into a shambles, but they are a danger to small children. I think we should endeavour to restrict the rights of race horses. . I don't know the legal position but we can at least try." It was decided to consult the borough solicitors with a view to framing a by-law along those lines.
