Brendan Bi;acken, Conservative, today, in a strong attaek on tlie Uoverniuent during a speecli at Fljntsbire. Iie said tlie British geniiis i'or trading was pot dead. It was chained by tlie- Hocialists who were doing everything to discourage marketing, bfinking and activities that made tiie nation prospei'ons. Iie, said some i'oreig eritics : and some leaders ot' Socialists oTttm eondemned British indnstrialists for allowing plants to beeome obsolete. AJucli of the obsolete ])lant in Britain was due to (Jovermnent greed and not the unwillingness of the employer to serap plant. Critics should romendrer that 'Britain's powerful eompetitors' had not been ]ilaeed at a disadvantage like Britain by overtaxation of company roserves. "Wbitehall is also open to tlie criticism of favouring what is eailed big business. There are manifold ehanees for the voung who rate risk and independence above safety first. Britain flourished when a goodly proportion of its youth was ambitious to be its own boss." /
