Spectacular Accident On Eketahuna Highway
t . • Two men were injured, one seriously and the other fairlv seriously when the enr in which fhej' were travelling strueh a cow on the m&in higliway t»Crween Pahiatua and Eketahuna, about four miles north of Eketahuna, at 4.30 p.m. on Saturday. The accident oceurred on about a 15 chain-bend, After striking the cow w-hieh was one. of a herd being driyen along the ropd, the car leapt right over a diteh by the roadside, erashed through an eightstrand wire fence and e&me to rest on its side about 10 yards inside a paddoek, Thc- driver of the car was Henrv Ernest Dickson, of t6A Oommerce Htreet, Auckland. He was proeeeding south at the time of the. aecident. Pinned under the ear when it earae to rest Mr. Dickson had a remarkable esoape from death, receiving lighter - injuries than his passenger. The name of the passenger was not known to the driver of fhe car, but he is belifeved to be Mr Hill Malone, an Trish or American immigrant who has been in the country only about two vears. Mr Malone received severe heail and body injuries. Both men were taken by amfmlance to the Masterton hospital. Last night Mr Malone. 's eondition was stated to be slightly improved, and Mr Dickson 's coudition was reported to be'satisfactorv. . The cow which the car struek was killed instantly. BOY STRANGLED ON SWING WHANGAREI, Fept. 3. A nine year old boy, DANNY TAYLOR, son of Mr and Mrs Taylor, of Russell, was strangled this morning when playing on a swing in his parents ' garden. The father was at work and the mother on a shopping tvip at the time. On returning the mother found the boy dead hanging from the swing, the ropes of which had apparentjy i>ecome twisted. The mother returned this week from a holiday in Sydpey.
