Vegetable Demand Steady At Good Prices
Massrs Townsend and Paul, Ltd., fruit and produce merchants, Wellington, report that at Thursday's saie there was a • particularly strong demand for all green vegetables. Cauuiflowers, cabbage an'd brussel sprouts were in . keenest demand, and ' values realised should prove most satisf actory. There is a> strong demand also for new potatoes and ceiling price has been the order of the day. Very liotle improvement has been shown in -fruit saies; however, there was a particulariy keen demand for meyer lemons, chinese gooseberries and passion fruit. Heavy consignments of flowers have been received, but Values still remain firm. Light yardings of poultry have been offered and there is a particularly strong demand for all prime birds-, best White Leghorn hens- realising up to 7s each, with Black Orpington hens up to 15s. Quotations are as follows: — Vegetables: Artichokes, 6s to 7s; carrots, Ohakune, 6s to 7s; kumeras, 28s to 26s; swedes, 2s to 5s, all sugar bags; beetroot, 6s to 9s; spring cabbage, 9s to 18s; Hawke's Bay iettuce, 25s to 35s; others, 10s to 19s; leeks, 6s to 10s; marrows, 14s to 18s 6d; parsnips, 10s to 14s; rhubarb, 20s to 28s; silver beet, 2s to 5§; spinach, 25s to 30s; white turnips, 7s to 9s, all cases; cauliflowers, ;drumhead, 12s to 19s; best, 18s to 26s; others, 13s to 16s; pumpkins, greys, 8s to 14s; triumble, 24s to 30s, all sacks; onions, 15s to 21s; peas, ls 6d to ls 8d; sprouts, ls to ls 2d per pound; potatoes, new, ceiling price; chinese cabbage, ls to ls 6d; celery, Auckland, 3s to 4s 3d; local, ls to ls 6d; radishes, 4d to 6d; mint, 6d to 8d; parsley, 6d to ls 6d,'all bunches.. •. .
