Ven Bede's Ladies' Guild Meets
" i V ■ Mrs. R. P. Lester presidqd over a good attendance of members at ihe August meeting of the Church of 'England Ladies' Guild. Mrs. C. Parr was acting secretary in che . absence through sickness .of Mrs. R. Wright. Arrangements were made for the serving of a buffet tea at about 4.45 p.m. for visitors and parishioners in the Parish Hall on Sunday, September 4. On this day of special importance to Anglicans in the c parish., the Bishop of Wellington will be visitmg Shannon to consecrate the 51-year-old Ven. Bede's Church, which early in the year was moved from thes site on which it stood in Bryce Street for 50 years to one next the Parish. Hall in Stout Street. The service will commence at 2.30 p.m. sharp and the vicar, Rev. M. J. S. Wheeler, has expressed the hope that as many as possible will avail themseives of the privilege of seeing the performance of some very ancient rites of the Church of England. At 3.30 p.m. there will be the annual confirmation service in the church when, besides local candidates, some 20 will be present from Foxton. The Bishop will give an address at this service, referring to the consecration of che building and the consecrating -of lives. At the conclusion of the servide opportunity will be given parishioners and visitors to meet -the Bishop and his wife, and° also Archdeacon Monaghan and his wife, .at- the buffet tea in ihe Parish' Hall. It is expected that a bus loa'd of people and the choir from All Saints' Church, Foxton, will he present. There will also be an evening service at 7 o'clock conducted by Rev. M. J. S. Wheeler. Mrs. C. Parr was appointed sick visitor for the month. Members of the Presbyterian and Methodist Church' Guilds accepted an invitation to a social afternoon in th'e Parish Hall on September 7, at 2.30 p.m. Mrs. J. W. Newton will have a comprehensive display of needlework on show at this social gathering. Mesdames Leng-Ward and Munford served afternoon tea, following which Mrs. J. D. Campbell gave a talk on child welfare and was accorded a hearty^ote of thanks.
