WELLINGTON, Sept. 1. It was noticeable that lilms of the gangster type were not very much in evidence and those submitted were not quite so lurid in theme and treatment as in previous years, stated the cinematograph section of the Department of Internal Affairs' report for the year ended March 31 last, which was presented to Parliament today. A total of 1573 films of all classes was examined. They totalled 4,274,700 feet and 85 were passed subject to excisions, 154 as more suitable for adults and 28 as not suitable foi- children. Three were rejected outright. British long or quota films totalled 66 and foreign 302 (inciuding 290_ from the United States). British non-quota or short films totalled 563 and foreign 642.
