Atomic Research Safety Measures

LONDON, Sept. 1. Leading atom scientists from Britain, the United States and Canada, are to meet at the British Governinent 's atomic energy research establishment at Harwell, Berkshire, next week to discuss safety measures in connection with atomic research. The conference will include diseussions under the technical co-operation programme of the United States, Britain and Canada, established early in 1948. This programme does not include matters dealing with atomic weapons. The delegates to the Harwell conference will discuss the treatment of radioactive wastcs, the ell'ects of radiation upon plants, animals and human beings, and the prevention of accidents during the operation and construction of atomic piles.
