Taxi Owners Seeking To Oust Communists
NEW PLYMOUTH, August 31. An amendment of the rules of tne New Zealand Taxi Proprietoi's} Federation to debar Coinmunists and Communist sympatliisers from hoiding executive offices in the federation or any of lts branches, 'will be considered at the next anilual conference, according to a noticc of motion given at the annual cohfeience at New Plymouth yesterday. Tlie agenda contained a reinit froni fhe Wellington branch to this eft'ecx and when the remit was reached thei'e was a inove by Mr. V. J. Leek, Wellington, for the conference to go into com mittee but there were cries of r' Why?' .and "Gestapo." The proposal to go into committee was subsequently heavily defeated. A remit submitted by H, Newall, Dunedin, in the form of a notice of motion that is to be 'discussed at the next annual conference, was carried.
