WELLINGTON, August 31. A reported growiag indifference the sanctity of marriage was the motivating factor behind a recouimendation discussed today at the a-nnual syn'od of the Methodist Church in the Wellington district. A reconunenda tion by the public cpiestions obmmittee asked that the conl'erenee which is to sit in November, should request ministers pof to conduct the marriage of divorced persons witliout evidence that the person coneerned was penitent for his or her part in the failure of tlie previous marriage and desired an amendment of life; also that ministers be instructed not to marry people wlio treated marriage "lightlv oi: lvantonly. ' ' On the motion of the Rev. Dr. W. G. Slade, tlie wording of the recommendation was altered to xead "witliout evidence that he or she is penitent for any guilt in the failure of the previous marriage, ' ' and the recouimendation was carried in that fonn.
