To Free Amateur Sports Of Amusement Tax
AUCKLAND, August 30. A promise that legislation to deal with the waiving of the amusement tax on gate charges for amateur sports, will shortly be introduced in Parliament, is tnade by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nasli, in a letter to the secretary of the organising committee 6f the Britisli Emiiire Games, Mr. C. L. Cleal. The committee recentlv addressed to Mr. Nash a request for relief from the payment of tax. on admission charges to the Empire Games in Auckland next year. "This is'to supplement the statement I made in the Ilouse regarding- the decision of the Government to free amateur sports and other organisations which are organised on a non-proiit basis from the paynlent of amusement tax, ' ' Mr. Nash lias written to Mr. Cleal. "The necessary legislation will be prepared at an early date and uppears to me to answer the repres'entations that you have made in connection with admission to the Britisli Empire Games. ' '
