Captain's Trophy Won By i H.W.S. Walker )
(By
Hugh Walker left no doubt as to , iihe winner of the" Levin Golf J Dlub's match last Saturday for its captain's trophy. . It 'took the form ' of a hid'den hole . stroke competikion with six holes, known only to the captain, to count. Hugh had a day out, carding three birdies, and we have recolleetions of him waiting with his "flngers crossed for the hidden .holes to be announced. He had shot his birdies on three of the counting holes and finished ■ with 18 l-.3rd strokes against a par of 24 for the six holes (l-3rd handicap deducted). • Some other good rounds were played and as- a result the following have had adjustments made to their handicaps: — J. A. C. King, 13 to 11; D.. P. Todd, 13 to 11; H. W. S. Walker, 14 to 12; H. D. Richards, 15 to 14; A. Bennett, 16 tc 15; I. King, 23 to 22? and J.. E. Fullarton, 16 to 14. Late Arrivals. The committee has asked that the matter of late arrivals he raised again. The draw commences at 12.45 p.m. and finishes at 1.15. Any player who has not arrived by the latter time cannot oe eligible to compete for the weekly trbphy. It is not fair to the membei handling the draw and the members of his four to expect them fco wait aboufc the club house indefinitely, and neither is it fair to the lady members who have games arranged for Saturday. In short, those who have not arrived oy 1.15 p.m. must allow all players, men or ladies, who are on the tee &o hit off and must start at No. 1. Rules Again. In a stroke competition such as .shat played last Saturday, h should be remembered that, each p/ayer is playing the fieid and a minor rule broken is a serious tliing. The following tw6 rules are brought io attention following observations on Saturday's play.
Lifting from a creek: The ball ■ust be played from behind the iazard. It is possible, and it has nappened at Cheslyn Rise, for a player to put as many as four in the creek. By p'aying from the safe side of any hazard you may have avoided troubie, but you may also. win a .competition with a card that should be disqualified. Putting out: Every hole must be putted out. It is not permissible to place the hand in' the cup and hit the ball into 'it. If your hand had not been there the ball might have gone right over the hole. You may think it is impossible to miss a one-inch putt, hut we can assure you that we have seen one of the Dominion's top golfers miss a putt of exactiy that length in the open championship. And definitely no conceded putts, either of your own or any member of your four. Next weekend a strong team from Otaki is coming "to play a match against Levin. Players available for seleetion would assist the very busy captain by contactting him by telephone. The usua] procedure regarding a plate -wil] apply. Next Saturday's competition will be a stableford bogey.
