Stortford Lodge Stock Values

HASTINGS, August 31. Grown male eattle made up the bulk of the yarding of 843 head of store eattle at Stortford Lodge today. For ' these, as for other classes of eattle, the market remained souud. Manawatu buyers helped to stimulate the general buying strength of the market from the start when the rostrum was well filled with buyers. It is apparent that the inquiry for eattle to cope with growing pastures, is being 'well maintained. It is a long time since the market was so well supplied with grown male eattle. The offering inclnded some good quality lines whieh encountere,d a brisk inquiry. Buyers ■ seeking female eattle had little to select from. Bulloeks sold at £1S 7s, three and four year steers at £17 15s, thr.ee year»steeys at £15 15s to to £17, quality two-year steers at £14 5s to £15, smaJLler £12 ls to £13 2s, yehrling steers at £5 3s to £9 15s. A small line of empty cows amd heifers realised £11 7s and yearling heifers brought £7 14s. Emphasis was on heifers in the beef. market, values showing a further inerease on the last two weeks' improved rates. Buyers were 'offered a quality yarding of 143 whieh, judging by the keenness of the inquiry, was still insufiicient to meet butchers' demands. The market was again weii supplied with bulloks and quotations for these were maintained at recent levels thouglx there was a greater display oi" interest in heifers. EweS and lambs whieh were in better supply today, were slightly easier in value than last week and hoggets were hard put to it to about hoid their own at prices approaching recent saies. The yarding of 3000 head failed to offer mueh in the way of noteworthy quality tliough there were one or two good lines of hoggets. Values for lambs and ewes sold on an all round basis, ranged from 29s to 30s lld. Good wether hoggets were traded at 45s to 49s 4d with small to medium sorts at 38s Od to 39s.
