Winterburn Sets New Golf Record At Otaki

The ~ highlight of the weekend's golf at the Otaki links was the score of 65 hy j. Winterburn to establish a new cpurse record. His score included eight "Birdies," nine "bogies" and one of one over bogey. His out card read 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 3, 3, 3, 3, 31; and his home card 4, 2, 4, 4, 5, 3, 3, 5, 4, 34; a total of 65. The first round of the championships was played on Saturday and resulted: — Senior: e. Gray beat h. Derham 6 and 5, j. Winterburn beat t. Webster 7 and 6, z. Gray beat j. Sams 6 and 5. Intermediate : p. b. Bryden beat 5. Elliott 2 and 1, w. Rzoska beat t. Mansell 5 and 4. Junior: h. Brunton beat n. Willis 5 and 4, l. g. Gimblect beat h: l. Browne at the 20th. The bisque bogey played in conjunction was won by j. Winterburn seven up, followed by h. l. Browne with five up. On Sunday the Boulcott club from Lower Hutt -visited Otaki for the return inter-club match. After some ■ very interesting contests, Otaki emerged the winners with 15 singles to 11 with two halved, and seven foursomes to five with two halved. Next Saturday a further bisque bogey will be played and players with matches to be played at later dates are asked to complete them this week if possible. On Sunday Otaki will visit Levin for the return match with the Levin elub.
