Army Officer Charged With Theft Of £425
♦ PAHIATUA, August 31. Remanded from the Police Court last week, Edmund John Champion Finny, an Army officer, appeared before Messrs. L. ' H. Hartley and S. J. Judd, Justices of the Peace, at * Pahiatua this morning to answer a charge that on July 25, being a servant of the New Zealand Government, he stole £425, the property of the Government. Accused was represented by Mr. S. K. Siddells. For the police, DetectiveSergeant J. H. Alty, of Palmerston North, asked for another remand to September 14 pending further charges being preferred. * Accused was remanded. Bail was renewed at £500 in aecused's own recognisance and one surety of £500. I An application for. a renewal r.of jbail at the original figure was opposed by the police. DetectiveSergeant Alty said that further charges would be laid against accused involving a larger amount. He asked for another seeurity of. £500. The request was refused by the court. Accused was ordered to report to the police at least once a week.
