WELLINGTON, August 29. With a field of 14, including the titieholder," B. Carrick (Auckland) and five former champions, the New Zealand billiards ehampionship began today. In the early games A. Twohill (West Coast) holder of the New Zealand record break of 540, beat W. Smith (Canterbury), 666 — 600. L. Blakaby (Wellington) beat J. S. Procter (Otago) 666 — 600; and S. Moses (Wellington) four times title-holder, beat J. J. Shepherd (Auckland)" New Zealand charripion four years ago, 666 — 475.
