Plenty of Snow at National Park
^ AUCKLAND, August 27. Chateau Tongariro was bathed in brilliant sunshine today after 26 hours of almost eontinuous ' snowing. The snow, six feet deep on the golf course, is eovering a wide area. There was more snow on the lower slopes of Mt. Ruapehu than for over two months. The best skiing eonditions this winter are expected. The Chateau manager, Mr L. S. Dennis, said today that booldngs this year were pkenomenally heavy. He expects the rush to continue until the summer months when many overseas tourists are expected. A second ski tow is being shipped from Lyttelton to'New Plymouth and should rea^h the Chateau in a week or ten days. It will be installed on the "nursery" slope for the use of beginners. Up to 100 people dailv are using the tow on the "staircase" slope. Interrupted by bad weather on Wednesday, the New Zealand University skiing championships were continued at the Chateau today with one run of the men's slalenx and two runs of the women's slalem. Several team members have had to retnrn to their homes. Thes'e include li. K. Iving (Otago) who did the fastest time in the first run of th'e men's slalem on Wednesday.
