, ' WELLINGTON, August 25, In the Ilouse of Kepresentatives, JMr W. Bullivan (Bay of Plenty) asked the Minister of Internal Affairs to ensure the enforcement in future of the provisions of the Maori Antiquit-ies Aet 1908, to prevent articles leaving New Zealand which come under the scope.of the Act. He asked if the Minister gave permission for an liistorie Maori mere or kotiare to be exported from New Zealand for .presentation to the Navy League of Canada on behalf of the New Zealand Navy League. Mr Sullivan said Maori ant'iquities such as greenstone artifacts and wood carvings, were of great value to New Zealand museums and tlie law required them to be offered to the Government for sale before they were exported. Persons exporting such articles without the Minister 's written permission, were subject to a line up to £100. . ■' .
