Local Greyhounds Win Half The Programme
At the Olympic Greyliound Club(s meeting held at Foxton on Saturday local owners had an excellent day, winning *no less than seven of the fourteen races carded. Lady Foxbridge won the maiden flat by two lengths for Mr. Allan Brooks, with Bronstar, owned by Mr. Roy Booth, Snr., second. In ■the Novice Flat No. 1, Mr. F. Brunell's Palluna was second, with Tracer, owne'd by Mrs. Brunell, third. . ,, Two local dogs started m the Saplings. The result was a win for Legal, owned by Mr. B. Lumsden, with Sunshine, owned by Mr. C. Pussell,> having its first start, in second place. This ws quite a good effort, as the track is now 465 yards long, and that is a fair distance for young dogs to raee. Some fine exhibitions of jumping were seen, and Mr. Roy Collis had an easy victory with Boston Gity in the Maiden Hurdles. Pop's Gift, owned by Mr. Roy Booth, Jnr., ran third in this event. Master Luna was at his best to win the Open Hurdles for Mr. A. Brooks, with Nigger Boy a very good second for Mr. Roy Collis. The winner showed great speed on the flat, and jumped faultlessly. The Novice Hurdles was won narrowly for Mrs. Brunell by Tracer, from Disdain, owned by Mr. R. Booth, Snr. Lucky Helen lived up to her name in winning the Limit Hurdles after being five lengths behind Kippo coming to the last
fence where Kippo ieu neavny. Lucky Helen went on to win by two lengths with Kippo second, and Lady Mariner (Miss Mavis Booth) third. Miss Phyllis Brunell received a trophy as well as the stake as a result of Lucky Helen's win. The consolation race saw two local dogs start, and Black Pool Sam won in fine style for Mr. F. Brunell, from Mr. R. Collis' Nigger Boy. The successes recorded should be a good augury for local entrants at the next Otaki meeting to be held on September 11.
