Men Want More Say In Nationalised Industries
xp Received Tuesday, 7 p.m. LONDON, August 23. The annual report of tlie Tradis Union Congress, published today, makes it plain that serious differenees liave developed between the trades nnioa niovement and the - Government over the conduct of nationalised industries. The report sumnmrises relies by 27 major unions to questions about nationalisation and this summary shows that the major ity of unions are far ( from satisfied with recen't devClop- j inents. The National Union of Minewoi'kers, for instance, says: "After more than two years of nationalisation, while relationships have to sonie extent improved, there still remains a good deal of dissatisfaction. The goodwill that had been built up so laboriously since vesting day, is being replaced by cynicism. ' ' The National Union of Bank Employees complained that it was not being sufficiently recognised by the Bank of England, and demanded the right to appoirit a workers' representative upon the court of directors. The National Union of Railwaymen said it was far from satisfied with the uegree of consultation since nationalisation, and wanted a greater voiee in the selection of candidates for promotion. The T.U.C. report states that the general couneil now proposes to present the following special demands to the Government:
