Good Market For Flowers And Vegetables
Messrs Townsend aiid Pafil, Ltd., fruit and produce mer chants, Wellington, report that at last week's sale "most lines of "vegetables were in short supply and exceptionally keen vames were' shown for cauliflowers, kumeras, lettuce, green peas, pumpkins .and . brussel sprouts. With the shortage of old potatoes there is a ready sale for all new potatoes at ceiling price. Daffodils, vioiets and poppies are keenly sought after, best varieties of daffodils realising up to 28s per gross. Light yardihgs of poultry have been offered and the demand hoted was paridcularly keen. In • most cases supplies have been short of requirements. Quotations are as follows: — Fruit: — N.Z. grapefruit, 7s to 12s; sweet oranges, 12 to 15s, bushel cases; meyer lemons, 6s to 8s; tree tomatoes, 7s to 12s; Chinese gooseberries, 25s to 32s, half cases; passion fruit, 3s 6d to 4s 6d per dozen. Vegetables: — Kumeras, 40s to 45s cwt.; artichokes, 5s per box; beetIroot, 6s to 10s; spring cabbage, 6s !to 13s; lettuce, Hawke's Bay, 15s ;to 25s; leeks, 3s to 9s; marrows, 6s to 9s; rhubarb,' 17s to 31s 6d; silver beet, 3s 6d to 8s 6d; spinach, 17s to 25s; white turnips, 5s to 9s, all cases; best cauliflowers, 26s to 40s, others, 10s to 20s; red pump16s to 24s; triumble, 17s to 27s; greys, 6s to 11s; .swedes, 2s to 3s 6d, all sacks; carrots, 3s to 5s; parsnips, 3s to 6s; peas, 10d to ls 4d lb.; sprouts, 6d to ls lb.; onions, l-6s to 21s cental bags; parsley, 4d, 6d, 8d; celery, 2s 6d to 6s 6d; Chinese cabbage, 6d to ls 6d, all bunchqs; potatoes, new, ceiling price.
