Good Market For Flowers And Vegetables

Messrs Townsend aiid Pafil, Ltd., fruit and produce mer chants, Wellington, report that at last week's sale "most lines of "vegetables were in short supply and exceptionally keen vames were' shown for cauliflowers, kumeras, lettuce, green peas, pumpkins .and . brussel sprouts. With the shortage of old potatoes there is a ready sale for all new potatoes at ceiling price. Daffodils, vioiets and poppies are keenly sought after, best varieties of daffodils realising up to 28s per gross. Light yardihgs of poultry have been offered and the demand hoted was paridcularly keen. In • most cases supplies have been short of requirements. Quotations are as follows: — Fruit: — N.Z. grapefruit, 7s to 12s; sweet oranges, 12 to 15s, bushel cases; meyer lemons, 6s to 8s; tree tomatoes, 7s to 12s; Chinese gooseberries, 25s to 32s, half cases; passion fruit, 3s 6d to 4s 6d per dozen.
