Revised Playford Park Plan Accepted By Council
The revised plan of subdivision of the Playford Estatb sqctions, as siibhiitted , by Cr. A. W. Parton, was unanimously approved by the Levin Borough Council at a special meeting last night. Cr. Parton's plan makes provision for the continuance of George Street through private property, through the subdivided sections and directly .into the centre of the domain ahd motbr } camp, thus doing away with • this "dead end" street ahd giving quicker access into the park. At a special meeting of the Works Committee recently (the subject of a discussion at last week's council meeting) it had been decided to proceed no furfchef with the George Street ex-' cenSion ahd to allow for a narrow Street approach to the park from Quinn's Road. This approach has been allowed for in the second plan also. The second plan met.with no opposltion when it was presented last night, it^beihg agreed that it was the better of the two. The Mayof, Mr. H. B. Burdekin said that the amended plan was a distinct improvement and still lbft the Queenwo'od Road extension and a full cafriage drive of 66ft. v through the subdivision. The sections had been re-afi'anged but it still left the full number of sections as before." Did Cr. Parton hatch this plan before the Works Committee meeting or afterwards? asked C,r. W. Teiford, chairman of the .Works Committee. Rising to a point of order, Cr. D.-'J. Sweetzer said that he con-: sidered the question irrelevant. Cr. Parton had been working on the revised plan before the Works Committee met and had not been given an opportunity to.be present. Cr, Teiford said he had • not known cr. Parton had such a pian. In regard to the question of holding meetings at private residences, as mentioned last week, he did noc consider that 'an innovation. Over the past five years there had been four occasions when • committee meetings had been held in private homes owing to there not being a quorum due to a member beirig ili. He did not .think a precedent had been established. There was nothing wrong about it at all. Followihg the adoption of the amended plan being ' put to the meeting and carried unanimously, Mr. Burdekin thanked Cr. Parton for pursuing the matter further ahd bringing forward the . new plan and also referred to ihe generous offer of the owner of the private property, Mr§. Teal, in making the approach available. Cr. Parton said he had done his best and hoped that in the end it would be proved a wise amemdment. A report was then presented by Mr. I. S. Park on. negoiiations with the Land Valuation' Committee. This was taken in committee and' was followtd with a statement by the Mayor, also in committee, on the latest developments in regard to the sewerage scheme.
