Jersey Breeders' Annual Meeting
Although nothing of a spectacular nature had occurred it had been a year of steady progress, reporfeed the president of the HoroWhehua Jersey Cattle Breeders' Club, Mr. J. G. Horn, at the annual meeting of the club oh Friday night. Membership now stood at 41. The annual field day had taken the form of a visit to -Massey Agricultural College, Palmerston North, and it had proved to be a most enjoyable and instructive outing and the club was iildebted to Professor Riddet and- his staff for making the visit possible and the attention given the visitors. Entries in the "Oaks" competitions, which were now underway, were very satisfactory. There had been 16 first acceptances for the local "Oaks"' which woUld be decided at the next Horowhenua A. and P. Show. There were to date 41 nominations in the number ohe Horowhenua "Oaks" and 37 nominations in the number two Horowhenua "Oaks.V It was pleasing to note, added Mr, Horn, that six entries from outside districts were received for -the number two competition. • The subsidy paid on prize-money in the Jersey classes at the A. and P. Show had amounted to £49 ls 6d, of which £15 had been contribute'd by the New- Zealand Jersey Catfe Breeders' Association and £24 13s 6d in donatibns from club members, balance being made up from club funds. " This was possibly the highest subsidy so far paid out by the club. In concluding his remarks the. president expressed his thanks for the lbyal support he had received from members during the past year, to the ladies for seeing to the luncheon and afternoon tea arrangements on the occasion of the club's visit to Massey College, Mr. P. C. Hill for his services as honorary auditor, Mr. J. A. Goodwin for his assistance during the year ahd for the efficient manner in which he had carried out his secretarial dutieS, ahd to the press for publicity. After several members had expressed approval of the club's fihancial position and the year's work the report and balance sheet was adopted on the motion of Mr. H. J. Lancaster, seconded by Mr. C. M. O'Sullivan. Election Of OfRcers. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. R. W. Evans; president, Mr. J. G. Horn; vice-presidents, Messrs P. R. Catley, B. R. Robinson and C. M. O'Sullivan; general cbmmittee, those present, with power to add; executive committee, Messrs J. G. Horn (chairman), I. D. Parsons, R. W. Evans, H. J. Lancaster, P. R. Catley, M. Rolston, P. Humphrey and A. S. Hprri; secretary, Mr. J, A. Goodwin; hon. auditor, Mr. P. C. Hill. It was decided to write to Mr. Hill and thank him ,for past services. During general business, the chairman . broughf 4o « the- hotice of » the meeting the question of * according recognition to members of many years standing, who had given sterling service in the interests of the club and Jersey affairs generally. He mentioned Mr. P. A. Anderson as one on whom he thought the club should bestow an honorary life membership. Mr. H. J. Lancaster said he was very much in favour of the club showing appreciation of services rendered by its pioneer members. On being put to vote, it was decided to appoint Mr. Anderson a life member. It was also decided to re-appoint Mr. H, J. Lancaster as delegate to the Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Club and that a donation of £2 2s be made to the club. Those present were: — Mr. J. G. Horn, (chairman), Messrs H, J. Lancaster, J. N. Barrie, P. Humphrey, C. M. O'Sullivan, N. R. Bevan, A. S. Horn, P. R. Catley, JL. M, Clark, K. ROe, H. Mai-shali, A. J Du Pont and the secretary, Mr. J. A. Goodwin. Apologies were received from Messrs B. R. Robinson, A. R. Macfarlane and M. Rolston.
