State House Allocation Committee Formed
j. — A local committee has been set up by the Government to assist in allocating State houses, and the committee held its first meeting on Thursday when the branch manager of the State Advances Corporation, and the secretary of the Wellington-Hutt Valley allocation committee, outlined the general policy, and the procedure to be adopted was freelly discussed. The appointment of a local committee was welcomed as it was considered that a knowledge of local background would assist towards allocations being judiciously made and would be a great help in selecting the most deserving cases. Stress was lald on the fact that Information which would come before the local committee would be strictly confidential, while it was pointed out that many factors govern the degree of urgency of certain applications. The committee which is comprised of five members representative of various -sections of the community, will consider applications as a committee and allot houses when available to the most deserving cafes. Applicants are required to place their circumstances before the State Advances Corporation as in the past, and these will be considered by the committee when applications are under review. The local committee asked the State Advances Corporation members present to convey to the Minister the urgent need fcr a special effort to be made on behalf of Maori applicants.
