Trades Council Support For Canadian Strikers

CHRISTCHURCH, August 19. The Canterburv Trades Councii supports t#e striking Canadian seamen on the Tridale which has been delayed at Wellington for several weeks. "After considering a eablegrain from Mr. Harry Bridges, president of the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen 's Union, and a subsequent lett.er from the Coast Lahour Relations Oommittee about the strike of the Canadian Soamen's Union (ot| which the Tridale's crew are a part) the Canterburv Trades Councii resolvec! without dissent to support the crew of the Tridale in their action," said the secretary (Mr. A. B. Grant) today. The resolution will be sent to the New Zealand Federation of 'Labour and to the crew of the Tridale. When the question was mentioned at the Trades Councii meeting a fortnight ago it was decided to seek additional information from "an American spokesman of good repute. " Mr. Bridges was chos6n and his eablegrain said the crew of the Canadian Seamen 's Union deserved support.
