Hunt For Fabulous Lost Treasure Begins
Received Fridav 8.50 p.m. LONDON, August 19. A European-wide hunt for the £250,000 Rothschild jewels which disapepared during the Nazi occupation of France has begun, says the Associated Press Frankfurt correspo'ndent. It is believed Herman Goering arranged for the removal to Germauy of 56 cases containing hundreds of pearjs, emeralds, diamonds, and other precious stones be longing to the famous banking family. The hunt has been organised by Guy and Edouard de Rothschild, the Freneh branch of the family. They have promised high rewards to persons returning jewels and have set up a three-man board to ensure a just distribution of the rewards. The board comprises the former United States prosecutor in Nuremberg, Professor W. Kempner, a Freneh lawyer and a German lawver. A scientific expedition. is to search the INIarano Lagoon in Yenice for" a treasure of fabulous value said to have been dumped there by Attila, king of the Huns, in the fifth eenturv, says the Daily Mail's Bome correspondent. Signor Fontani, an arehaeologist who is directing the operations, claiins that he was told of the location by a German woman diviner who died in Berlin recently.
