Power Board Not At Fault This Time
. With its heading "Peacetime Blackout," the Kapiti Observer, a fortnightly journal issued to householders in the Paraparaumu and southern areas takes to task the Horowhenua Electric Power Board for a "serious vlack5 of; street. ing." " ' > ¥ * It says "Long stretches of populated roads and dangerous intersections are without lights at all, while the almost entire absence of footpaths adds tremendously to the risks run by pedestrians in this needless Dark Age." It adds that a check' up by the journal revealed that of 51 lights applied for, only 29 had been installed by the board. "Inquiries reveal that there is no tenable excuse why the 51 lights and a lot more besides should not be installed immediately," says the article. Commenting at the monthly meeting of the board this week, the chairman, Mr. T. G. Vincent, said the journal should have first checked up properly on the 'situation before printing the article. Of the 51 lights promised, 43 had been installed., "There are occasions when we might be at fault, but not this time," he said. It was decided to write to the publishers requesting that the corfect facts be given equal publicity.
