Flung Hat On Floor, Told Him To Get Out
WELLINGTON, August 18. A customer in a Wellington restaurant recently found a cockroac-h in a bowl of soup he had been served. A complaiut was made and a visit made to the premises by aii inspector. In the Magistrate's Court today, the inspector relafed how he visited the premises of the Coffee I'ot restaurant, Lambton Quav, and found cockroach.es on the wnlls of the kitchen and in food bins Beliind one bin lie found several colonies of eockroaches and tins cf food on shelves were so thickly covered with eockroaches that it was impossible to read the labels and ascertain wli^jt _ food tlie- ftihs contained. The" inspector alleged that the restaurant proprietor, Jack Karageorge, grabbed him by the arm and pushed him towards the door. He had then flung the inspector 's hat- and satchel on th floor and told him to get out. "As T turned round he had a smab knife with a sharp point in his haud, " the inspector said. Karageorge, who faced two charget of hindering sanitary inspectors in the course of their work, said in evidenee that the eockroaches had come in botxeuf food he had purchased from t. vvholesaler. There were not more than "a eouple of dozen eockroaches. " Karageorge alleged that the inspectoi had told lies about the affair. The Magistrate, *Mr. J. E. Herd, S.M. said there had been no "corroboratior of tho inspector 's allegations of knife pulling "but there defmitely had been some hindrauce on Karageorge 's part. A fine of £2 was imposed on on» charge and the other was dismissed.
