Unemployment In Engineering Trades
Eeceived Thursdav, 7 p.m. LONDON, August 18. Following a Federation of British Industries statement giving a warning of imminent mass unemployment in the British engineering trades, one of the biggest Midlands steel firms, John Garrington and Sons, of Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, announced that it will sack 557 of its mon — ;nearly a quarter of the payroll — because of redundancy. Garringtons, eince the war, produced one-quarter of Britain 's steel forgings. Orders for steel forgings dropped because fewer tractors wero being exported. /
