One-Way Traffic Slopes Of Ruapehu

NEW PLYMOUTH, August 16. The narrow and winding four miles of road between Chateau Tongariro and Salt Hut on the slopes of Mt. Ruapehu, will be made a one-way road when it is reopened. The traffic inspector at Taumarunui, Mr. J. N. Birse, said today that hiotorists wishing to travel up the road would have to inquire at the garage at the Chateau if they could proceed. A telephone call would be made to a parking place half way up the road to find if any traffic was on the road. If it was clear a car would proceed to half-way and the same procedure would apply from half-way to Salt Hut and on the return journey.
