Further Building Planned In Pit Area

Further building activity in the disused gravel pit between- .the railway line and Oxford Street is planned if the Building Controller approves a permit being granted to a local firm which intends erecting a two storey joinery shop there. The initial applicUtion to the Levin Borough Council was made and approved a't a council meeting on Monday night, it being stated that the proposed site was out of the brick area. The proposed building is to be of wood and built up so that the top storey is on a level with Oxford Street. The Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, said that he had always had hopes of beautifying the pit area and he did not altogether like these back yards facing on to the railway line. A further application for the erection of a joinery shop in Oxford Street was also approved by the council, providing it was built in conformation with the. borough by-laws as.it was in the brick area Writing on behalf of a client, a flrm of solicitors sought approval for the es'tablishment of a home cpokery shbp at the corner of Exeter and Oxford Streets, The council granted -permission.
