Storm Water Problem Again Discussed

■ .■■■ -MI" The problem of storm water disposal and its relation to water races passing through the borough was discussed on Monday night at a meeting of the Levin Borough Council at which the county engineer, Mr. W. H. Fraser, was present., • Last week the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, and Cr, A, W. Parton waited on the' Horowhenua County Council to discuss the possible 'diversion or elimination' of water races passing through the town, and it was the result of discussions there that Mr. Fraser attended the borough CQuncil's meeting in order that his investigation of the problem could be . outlined to all the councillors, Outlining the .position on the same lines as reported last week, Mr. Fraser pointed out '•the imposslbility of diverting water races owing to the fall of the land and the danger of increasing the flood trouble by the diyersion of more water into another channel. Asked by Cr. Parton whether the county council would object to the borough council piping the water through the town and releasing it into the races on the borough boundary, Mr. Fraser said that -the council as such might not object, out landowriers in the area might. The channe'ling of water through pipes naturally made.it ruri fa'ster and> increased its flow in the races at the other end, Mr. Fraser said that Leviri's trouble was a peculiar one in that chere was no natural water way in the immediate neighbourhood. It was the natural result of the progress of the town, and every street chat was formed decreased the absorption in that locali'ty and, when a. road was se'aled, even more so. The county council had its worries in regard to water races, too, as areas outside the boundary of the oorough were being steadily built up and the peopie paying water rates for water they- did not need were also pressing for races to be diverted off their property. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Fraser for his attendance at the meeting and vaiuable assistance. " . . -
