It's the story of a boy brought up by a drunken, no-good father, a boy striving to do the right thing but driven to desperate circumstances, who hattles his way up the ladder to sports fame, is made the pawn of a suave gentleman gamhler and in a terrifying climax, takes a terrific beating and almost throws his biggest fight in an endeavour to save his father and the girl he loves.
