Posed As Policeman To Victimise Women
AUCKLAND, August 15. A~man who posed as a member of the police force, indecently assaulted two women, committed theft and obtained eredit by fraud by issuing valueless cheques, pleaded guilty to nine charges when he appeared before' Mr: E. McCarthy, S.M. Aceused, David Allan Ferry, aged 30, kitchenhaiid, was committed to the Supreme Court for. ! sentence on the assanlt charges and on the theft and fraud charges. . On two; of the charges of pretendiug by wqrds. and conduct that he was a member. oi the New Zeaiand Police Force, accused was conv'icted and senteneed to three months ' imprisonment, the sentences to be cumulative. , A young woman, aged 22, told how accused represented bimself to her as a policeman. She was sitting in a car with a friend when accused came along and shone a toreh in the window. He called her friend avray and then returned and told her that he would see her home: She went with accused and he iater assaulted her. Witness said she went because she thought accused. was a policeman. - . Another woman said. she was sitting with a friend on the evening of July-; 23. Accused represented himself as a; policeman, called h6r- friend away and' after speaking to him, returned and told her that he would see her to che j tram. Witness said accused took her ;! down past the Magistrate's Court. He took lier down a iane nearby and as-i .. saulted her while there. A car passed ' and accused told witness it was a : police patrol car. A few minutes- ■ later it returned and two detectives got out and took aceused to the police station. ;
