Different Nantes For Same Experience
"Salvation and life are differen't names for the same central experience," said Rev. A. Salmond, preaching in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Levin, on Sunday night. "Salvation emphasi ses the negative side of the experience and life the positive side. In Christ a man is save'd from the guilt and power of sin and from the resulting separation from God, but he is also led into a new spirit of living and a new attitude towards all experience. To stop short with a description of what a man is saved from is as serious a mistake as to confine oneself to a description of the freedom and joys of a new life. "Christian men cannot adequately praise God for His deliverance of them from corrupting evils without going on. in gratitu'de in * a, strong endeavour to give evidence of a clearer vision and a purer desire and worthier spirit," continued the preacher. "The impression some Christians unconsciously give is that because they are -not thieves, wifebeaters or immoral persons their salvation is thoroughly assured. Actually it is not. Salvation is not assured unless it is' accompanied with life in Christ. It is visible life in Christ that a despairing world is longing to see."
