Mugs For John Citizen But Cups For Railways
DUNBBIN, August 11. Wholesale liouses in Dunedin which have stoeked crockery, are indignant about a circular from the Railways Department asking for tenders for English cups. Wholesalers reeently reeeived a request from the district storekeeper at the Hillside branch of the Department to submit a quotation for 500 gross of' counter cups of English manufacture of lOoz. capacity with straight sides and strong bloek handles, and marked "New Zealand Railtvays" in blue. The speeifications added that the cups were to be made of vitrifled hotel ware. A wholesaler said today that no flrm in New Zealand was likely to have English cups in stock marked for the New Zealand Railways. It thus appeared that a special licence would be issued to tbe successful tenderer to enable his flrm to import the cups required by the Department. Presumably be would have to prove that the cups could be made for him in England before he was given the licence. What the wholesalers objected to, however, was that it appeared that cups inade in New Zealand were good enough for the ordinary citizen jiut
