Received Friday, 10.25 a.m. BERLIN, Aug. 11. Not one German political party during the present election campaign has ha'd a good word to say for the achievements of the Western occupying powers, an American Military Government spokesman told German radio listeners today in the weekly American broadcast. I Opinion abroad would not forget German ingratitude for Western Ailied aid at a time when German fortunes were !ow, he said. "Not a single party, for instance, has had a good word for the positive work the Western Allies have accomplished in Germany in the past ifour years. One is forced to make comparisons with the past and ! look with some anxiety to the future which is to be entruste'd to such a forgetful nationalistic people." The spokesman said there was a danger that the radicals of the extreme Left and extreme Right might assume disproportionate strength in Sunday's election unless the ordinary elector observed his duty to vote. The lazy and irresponsible might grave'y prejudice the new Republic's future by failing again "now perhaps more than at any other historical moment. The future' lies in your hands — the hands in which you hold your bailot paper." Leaders Use Defiant Note. West German political candi'dates in election speeches today, used a defiant note towards the Occupation Powers, says the Associated Press Frankfurt correspondent. Dr. Kuri Schumacher, leader of the German Social Democrat Party, speaking at Hanover, accused the occupation powers of lack of faith in the possibi ity of building a democracy in Germany. He declaredi that the "ingrained arrogance" and j "inability to learn," displayed by j the Ailies were the heaviest mortgages which the new German democracy carried. Dr. • Konrad Adenauer, chairman of the Christian Democrats, said the British Government was the greatest ' obstacle to European federa.ion.
