No Time Lost With Erection Of Dwelling
T ^ Just five weeks from. .the time work begun on the foundations, the : sub-contractors are ready to move into a house in Liverpool Street to begin the interior painting and papering. Already the house has been wired up% sanitary fittings installed and functioning, all outside drains and septic tank completed, and outside painting done. This is cohsidered to be an exceptionahy good effort, especially when for four weeks the construction work has been done by ohly two men, although in one week up to five were working on it. The house is 980 square feet in size, -having two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and 'usual conveniences. The future tenant will be the manager of a new timber planing mill which has recently mbved to Levin to commence its activities here. The work of establishing the mill has been progressing at a high paee, as the firm is anxious to complete the main buildings as soon as possible. This explains the necessity for the manager's house being erected in such rapid time. The work is being done by the. company's own carpenters, who have been workjng a nine and a half hour day for five 'days a week. Work* has been done on one Saturday only'. They said today that much time was saved by having vthe framing prefabricated and they estimated that this had saved one week. They had, however, put on the roof themselves and this was not usualiy done. The roof is a flat one, but a departure from the usual practice is the fact that it is on a fivedegree pitch. This meant that there was no chance of water lying on the roof. They had had the advantage over many builders today in that they had not had to wait for materials, said one of the two builders working on the site yesterday. Everything had proceeded 'to schedule 'and they received perfect co-ordination with the sub-con-tractors. The new mill, when completed, will be quite a big local industry and the planned layout is an attractive one. Many of the 'smaller buildings are up already and roads put through, a though it is just 12 weeks since the first clod was turned on the site.
