- NELSON, August 10. The dining and kitch'en bloeks which cater for 270 boarders at Nelson College, were destroyed by fire late this af'ternoon. Three engines vvere sent out from the Nelson fire station but the fire had a firm hold when the brigade arrived and the buildings were completely gutted. The blaze started when fat in an eleetric fish fry caught fire. The cook on duty called college b'oys to help her and .one threw a jug of water into the blazing eontainer, spfefiding the flames. Thb fire gained a rapid hold on the kitchen block and spread to the dining hall. Supplies of bread aiid other food were obtained for th'e boys' evening meai at their hostels and arrangements havebeen made for the college to break up ihihiediately for the term holidays. Sofith Island boarders will be sent home tofiiorfdW and those liviiig in the North Island as soon as sea and air transport can be obtained. Sixty-five will leave Nelson for Wellington tomorrow night and 00 from Picton on Friday. Anotner 60 leave Nelson on Monday night. The balance will leave by air when seats are available. .
