SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES.
AUCKLAND, August 10. Sliould work cease on tlie Auckland waterfront, some grocery supplies would be exhausted in two weeks' time. The president of the New Zealand Federated Master Groeers' Association, Mr, I. R. "Wilson, gave this estimate today. He said that while most groeers were carrying fairly heavy stocks of winter lines, there would he shortages in hreakfast foods, tea, tapioca, lentils, dried beans, coeonut, nuts, cornflour, tinned fisli, salt and matches. The potato stocks in Auckland were suffieient only for a week or ten days. Mr. J. "R. Don, secretarv of the Auckland Manufacturers ' Asso■ciation, said a strike on the waterfront would seriously affect manv branches of industrv. probahly causing a shortening in production and staff.
