Another step in the United States programme to bring power to expanding industrial areas in the western part of the country, and to irrigate and reclaim arid land for productive agricultural use, has been completed with the installation of the last of five huge generators at Shasta Dam in northern California.-The addition of this fifth and last 75,000-kilowatt generator brings Shasta, California's largest hydro-electric plant, up to its rated capacity of 375,000 kilowatts. Full operation of the Shasta power house, supplying enough hydro-electric energy to equal the labour of four million men working continuously around the 1 clock, also will conserve the State's supplies of oil and gas.
