The Commonwealth gift centre, London, says the amount of gift food consigned to it from the Dominions, colonies and the United States from Decemher, 1945, to December, 1948, totalled over 125,000,000 lbs. Individuals received through the post over 66,000,000 parcels from 1§40 to 1948. The total value of the gifts during those years amounted to over £60,000,000. About 1800 scftools received gifts under a scheme started in New Zealand and Australia. New Zealand, since 1945, has sent Britain food gifts of over 20,000,000 lbs. and Australia since 1945 has sent over 40,000,000 lbs. of food in bulk for distrihution by local authorities. (
