' . • President 's CQnpat|ilations. Congratulating tne members on the success pf last year's operationg, the president said the main object of the association was to hold a shpw and last year's show tia.d been a cfedit to the'district. The association's membership was creeping up until it was uow 838, which was a considerabje increase on that of a few years ago. He boped that .at.the end Qf the present year the membership would reach the lQQp . mark. Referring to the smallness- of the pig section at the show, Mr. Kilsby said the oifficulty was in keeping the interest going. This was noticeable right throughout New Zealand. The pig industry was definitely "not flourtshing and there were regrettably jfew pig breeders in the.Horowhnua district. He wa^ very pyoud of the profit shown dUPhg tfie. year and this was an indication of the splendid responsp bf the public. It had to be remembefed, hpwever, that the fact that there had been no show'' the previous year in some respects accounted for the largeness of the profit. In congratqlati'ng t^e members of the committee, the members and the president on the succpss of last year's efforts, Mr. H: J. ^anca^ter referred to ihe trerqendous'renewal of interest |n ' agricqltural shows right' thrpughoilt" the pqmiRipu. There was^a tiffie bPlpre the war, he said, when most shows were unfinancial, but the ppposi?e was the case today. He did not copsidpr that there was mqch hope pf in? ereasing the entries i'n the "pig section. Thp fact that many dairy companies were turnipg pver to the production of dry buttermilk and discQntinuing the fatteping qf pigs was having a big effect on the in? dustry in this country. ITie pig section, however, was one which rpquirpd building up and hp would veiy much like to see a very live pig committee set up to Investigate the possibility of encouraging oreeders and generally seeing whai could be done. Qn behalf . of . the . residents of Levin, Mr. H. B. Burdekin said that all took great ipteres.t in the A. and P. Assopiatipn and ripted wl£h gatr isfactiori the succbss of its shpwg. He ' congratula^a"rtheI|associatibn on the fe'xceH'enbi.cl itil/pastbyear. Qrgafiisatipii gnd energy 'alwayg got results and thpse results wer-e not always seen in the profit and loss account, but in the improvement of the herds and studs. All the same, it was still nice to* see* a profit of £700. He trusted that the associa? tion would carry on its good. work and Wishbd " it every supcess. in luture years. General discussion brought forth fche recommendation that the committee consider increasing its number to 30 and dividing it into three sections, one section retiring each year, rather than continuihg with the policy of electing 25 officers each year. Also that it go into the question of bringing the rules up to date. It was suggested that if this was done an extraordinary general meeting could he held sp that if the suggestions were approved they could be implemented at the next annual general pieeting. A vote pf thanks to the president and a motioii exp'ressing utmost confidence in him to guide the affairs pf the associatipn through another- year was passed unani- , mously. it wa$ stated that Mr. Kilsby had been in offlce through the most troublesome and difficu^ r period in the association's history^ * and hp had come through with flying colours and^ credit both himself apd the association.
