Fines For Traffic Offences
Three drivers charged wih exeeeding the speed limit in Oxford Stree't, Levin, were convicted and fined in the Magistrate's Court, yesterday, by Mr. A. A. McLachlan, S.M. • William Donald Harper pafd the penalty of £2 and lQs court cqsts, Traffic Inspectof "W, Boyes stating that he had checked the defendapt's speed on a motor cycle at 42 m.p.h. Defendant had said he was in a hurry to get home. £>ater he had had to speak to defendant again, hut, had not i^sued a ticket on that bccasion. * Freder;ck Grotrian, of Wellington, wps .charged with exceeding the speed limit \n a light trqck. He wrote entering a pipa pf guilty and was fined £2 10s, witfi costs 10s The inspector said he had eliecked defendant 's speed at from 40 to 45 m.p.h. Lindsay Barron was charged with the triple offences of having no driver's licence, exceeding the speed limit of 30 m.p.h. and giving a false name and address to the inspector. He pieaded -guilty in a letter written to the court. The inspector said defendant was riding a motor cycle near the" Oxford Street-Queen Street intersection at a speed checked at 40 m.p.h. He iwas fined £2 for speeding, £2 for giying a false name and £1 for not having a licence. Peter Carmichael, Levin, was charged with having no warrant of fitness for his nibtpr cyple. " He plpaded guilty by letter and was fined 10s. Charged with having insufficient ights on his vehicle, Renneth Reremahana Beyan, Manakau, wrote pleading guilty. He was fined 10s, with 10s court costs. Peter John Ward, Ley|n, was charged with failing to give way at an intercpction when changing diyection. The inspector said ihe offence was committed at the ■ Oxf?rd Street-Queen Street" interf section. Defendant was proceeding south at the time. Defendant pieaded guilty, but said that he hqd deliberately failed to give way because he had realised that if he had done so an accident might have occurrpd- The magistrate said defendant should, not have got himself into the Rosition where he had to make suph a decision. "You have atterided court, however, and that is worth 10s off the fine," he added when stating that the fine bhould be £g for the pffence, hui that.he would reduce it to 30s. Cburt costs were 10s.
