NEW YORK, August 3. New Zealand had the lowest infant : mortality rate in the world, the TJnited Nations monthly hulletin of i statistics reported today. New Zealand's figure declined froih 31 deaths for every 1000 live hirths in 1937 to 22 in 1948. Australia 's rate dropped from 38 to 29 in 1947. The figure for 1948 was not given. The hulletin said the rate throughout the world dropped considerably during the past decade. Of 48 countries listed, Chile had. the highest rate with 241 in 1937 and 160 in 1948.
