Phillip Noel-Balcer, Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations, are among signatories of a letter to The Times from the Empire Games appeals comj niittee calling for subseriptions to- ! wards a £20,000 fund whieli is to send ' a strong British contingent to the Emi pire Games at Auckland in February, 1950. i The letter says the Empire Games have become a great Commonwealth ini stitution. ' ' Any one who has spoken j with menibers of past teams or with athletes who hope to go, will understand that sueli a visit to a distant Commonwealth country is not only a ■ landniark in an athlete's career but also an educational experienee which ' young men and women will never forget. " The Times, eommenting editorially on the appeals eommittee's letter, says the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, has sent a particularly pressing invitation to tlie United Ivingdom and after all the pleasure the New Zealand cricketers have given the English people this season, it will be a debt of honour to send our very best to' Auckland to plav the .return match with different weapons.
