Power Board Rugby Match Was Popular Event
The Horowhenua Power Board combined with Manawatu-Oroua Power Board to play a rugby match with Hutt Valley Power Board during the weekend, the game being arranged by the social clubs of the boards concerned. Although a private match, it ■ nevertheless attracted a very large crowd of onlookers to Rugby Park and an interesting game resulted, Hutt Valley defeating the combined' team by 14 — 9. Considering that in many cases it had been some years since ' the players had donned football boots, the standard of play was quite1 high. An indication of the enthusiasm of thQse games, which are developing Into an annual contest, was the fact that including players and supporters over 50 came up from Hutt Valley by bus and private cars and all had a thoroughiy enjoyable day's outing. On arrival the visitors were entertained at morning tea at the power board's office and later at lunch. Following the game afternoon tea was served at the board's depot and at an informal ceremony, the managing-secretary of the Horowhenua board, Mr. R. A. Frederikson, congratulated both teams and welcomed the visitors on behalf of the staff, also commenting on the very fine spirit which had prevailed throughout the match. On behalf of the board, Mr. C. S. Keedwell also extended a welcome to the visitors and congratulated the Horowhenua board's social club on its excellent organisation of the function, adding that the board was keen to encourage the social club in it's endeavours. The manager of the visiting team then thanked the hosts for a fine day's outing and excellent hospitality, and said that the team was looking forward to the next game.
