Another Fresh In Rivers FoLowing a series of freshes over the past month, the Manawatu River is again at a high level. Aljthough there is no dangei; of serious flooding, tlie level has caused the ciosmg of the floodgates with the result that drains have backed up, causing much water to lie over the lower lands of the district. Fire Brigade Ball - At a bieeting of the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade on Monday evening it was decided to go ahead with arrangements for the annual ball. Plans were held up earlier owing to the uncertainty of being able to obtain the Druids' Hall for the funetion. An assurance has now been given that the hall will be available for the ball, which is to be held on August 25. Up-Grade Of School At the monthly meeting of the Shannon School Committee on Monday ' evening, the headinaster, Mr. F. O. Burtt, in his report oated that if the school ' roli rtvciaged 321 pupils or more for the first four weeks of the third tern, . Lhe school would be up-graded a isub-grade and would be entitled to another maie assistant teacher, while another classroom would also be necessary.
