R.S.A. Women's Section Meets
The Women's Section of the Shannon Returned Services', Association held its annual general meeing in Laurvig's Hall on Wednesday last. In the absence o^ Mrs. S. w! Barber, president, on.aecount of • illnessj the chair was Decupied by Mrs. F. O. Burtt, vice-president.. There was a good attendance of members and three new members were pjoposed and acce'pted. ■ Among the correspo'ndence was a letter of thanks from the secretary of the Shannon branch of the R.S.A. for the excellent assistance given by the section in the recent carnival week con'ducted by the branch in aid of the War Memorial Hall fund. Following the presentation of the annual report and the reading of the balance-sheet, Mrs. Burtt retired from the chair and called upon the patroness, Mrs. J. A. Easton, to preside for the eleetion of officers.
The following were elected to fill the various offlces for the forthcoming year:— Patroness: Mrs. J. A. Easton; president: Mrs. S. W. Barber; vice-presidents: Mesdames P. J. Cole, B. Clayton and C. Guerin; secretary: Mrs. F. O. Burtt; assistant-secretary: Mrs. R. Quinlan; auditor: Mr. C. Guerin; bloom SGewardess: Mrs. C. Guerin; press officer: Mrs. B. Clayton. Following a discussion it was resolved to hold meetings every two months in the future. The points prize-winners for the past year in conneciion with the various bloom competitions were announced and they were Mrs. J. Griffiths (first) , with Mrs. F. O. Burtt runner-up. The bloom competition for the meeting resulted: Mrs. C. Johnson 1, Mrs. J. Griffiths 2, Mrs. C. Young 3. . The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the clfair. The next meeting is to be held in September.
