Received Wednesday, 11. a.m. HONG KONG, August 2. An allegation that the Amethyst sank the Chinese passenger steamer Kianghing in the course of her Yangtze escape was made by Peiping radio tonight. It said that several hundred passengers were drowned and alleged that the Amethyst forced the steamer to come alongside to use her as a shield against Communist shells: When the Communists signalled the Amethyst to stop, the Amethyst opened fire on the Kianghing, which caught fire and sank.
